The video took the 7.9--magnitude Great San Francisco quake of 1906 simulation. Afterwards, we went to watch the DARK UNIVERSE show inside the planetarium. Too bad no video was permitted inside. After the show, we went to the Naturalist Center, where we saw animal hides, bones, turtles, and even a dinosaur bone! It was pretty neat to have touched a real historic piece. Then we proceeded to the Rainforests of the World exhibit where we saw many tropical plants, animals and the like. It really felt like the tropics inside the large dome! After the greenhouse, we just walked around and saw more marine fish and also to learn a bit more about Claude, their famous, rare albino American alligator! Our last stop was the African Hall. We saw lions, prides, and even cute swimming penguins! We then ended the day from there. It was a gloomy, rainy day out, but we had such a wonderful time discovering and learning about astronomy, marine and land animals, tropical plants and more inside the facility! Get a rare view of the Farallon Islands' craggy peaks and rocky shorelines and scan the islands for marine mammals and birds. Our high-definition webcam is newly restored and now streaming live from a lighthouse atop Southeast Farallon Island. The islands of the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge are managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and are located nearly 30 miles off the coast of San Francisco. The Farallones host globally significant wildlife populations, including hundreds of thousands of seabirds and thousands of seals and sea lions. They are also a place of science where biologists from Point Blue Conservation Science study this complex ecosystem every day of the year, looking at the data to find ways to guide conservation and restoration of the islands in the face of climate change and other threats. Because of the important and sensitive seabird and mammal populations that use the Farallones as breeding grounds, the islands are not open to the public. They are accessed only by a small number of wildlife biologists and resource managers. Point Blue Conservation Science has been doing science and training the next generation of scientists on the islands since 1968 in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The webcam is a partnership of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Point Blue Conservation Science, and the California Academy of Sciences.
